Street Riding 101

This page is dedicated to providing the basic information when it comes to being a cyclist on the streets in Ohio. It’s always a good idea to look up the rules for your specific city but this will be a good place to start for information. ODOT publishes a Cycling Smart Guide that goes over laws and other street cycling information. Everyone needs to read this, cyclist and motorist!

The American League of bicyclist give us a good reference on the Rules of the Road

When you are riding be sure to follow the traffic rules.

  1. Signal when changing lanes.
  2. Stop at all red lights.
  3. Ride in the right lane.
  4. Claim the lane.
  5. BE PREDICTABLE. This is possible one of the most important points of street cycling.

All these things will help provide a safe environment for both cyclist and motorist.
