Volunteers needed for Tour de Dayton

The fourth annual Tour de Dayton will be Saturday, August 16, 2014.  It is a free, family-friendly cycling event that takes participants on 10-20 mile cycling rides with planned stops at local “gems” of Dayton.  This year, we plan to ride through Northeast and Southeast Dayton, and the start / finish of the event will be at Washington Park (at the interesection of Woodley Rd and Wright Ave, near the residence of 1112 Woodley Rd, Dayton Ohio 45403 if you would like to google it .  We plan to provide refreshments, snacks, and t-shirts for our volunteers, and encourage you to bring your own sunscreen, chair, or cooling device (umbrella or fan) depending on the weather that day.  Also, please let us know if you have a canopy or card table you could bring for set up at stop locations.

Volunteers are expected to arrive at Washington Park around 8:00 am so that we can have some light breakfast items, discuss assignments and expectations for the day. Volunteers will head to their assigned location and are expected to fill their role until the ride ends around 3pm.

Please contact Rachel Barnett at tourdedayton@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.  I would like your name(s), email and phone contacts, t-shirt sizes, food allergies you have, and anything else you think may be relevant for us to know.  We usually provide lunch so please let me know if you have a preference for turkey, ham, roast beef, or a veggie sandwich.  You should expect this event to take about 7 hours of your time on Saturday August 16, 2013.

We need about 30 volunteers at this year’s ride, and we hope that you will consider this event as a fun, exciting way to spend your Saturday morning.  We would like to know by Friday, July 25 2014 if you are able to volunteer.

This year we will have stops at Wright Patt Air Force Museum, the Dayton Fire Training Center, Life Enrichment Center, Charlie’s Deli, Miami Valley CDC, SWORD, DATV, Riverscape Bike Hub, and the current EC Doren Library / Old NE Priority Board location (1916 Firehouse).  If you are familiar with any of our stop locations and have knowledge / experience that you think would make you a better fit for a particular location, let us know and we will try our best to work to place you accordingly.  Please do recognize, however, that we cannot accommodate every preference and that there may be high demand to be at the same location.  Also, we plan to have a buddy system in place as locations will have at least two volunteers at each, so if you know someone and want to be paired with them that day, let us know and we will try our best to accommodate.

We may not be able to fulfill all of your preferences, but Ken and I do try to make assignments and pairings a positive experience for our volunteers, as we recognize that your volunteerism is what makes this event a success.  I do hope you choose to volunteer, and look forward to hearing from you!
